Not Guilty Plea from Maui murder suspect – Hawaii News Now – KGMB and KHNL Home:

AUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -The man accused of killing a California woman on Maui entered a plea of not guilty in court Tuesday morning.

Gerald Galaway is accused of killing Santa Cruz attorney Celestial Cassman on September 1 near Nakalele point in West Maui.

In court, Galaway pleaded not-guilty to charges including second-degree murder, attempted first-degree sexual assault, and kidnapping.

Circuit Court Judge Joseph E. Cardoza ordered a pre-trial conference for November 2, and a jury trial begins December 5.

The 38-year-old Galaway was taken yesterday from the hospital to prison.

Police say Galaway had been hospitalized after jumping off a 100-foot cliff near the point as officers approached.

Galaway and Cassman were on vacation and had just checked into their Kaanapali hotel the day before the murder. Autopsy results show she was choked to death.

Galaway is being held without bail.

The Hawaii State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (HSCADV) has launched a new blog, Purple Ribbons Hawaii, to raise awareness of the toll our communities pay due to the epidemic of domestic violence, as well as to provide a space for community response to DV homicides.
